15 Nov Tod Tales soundscape experience

Todmorden Then And Now brings Tod Tales, produced for last year’s book festival ,to life. The project is a collaboration between oral historian Ian Alderson, who led ‘Tod Tales’, and Jo Kennedy ,a Todmorden based sound artist. 

The soundscape uses audio interviews, both in English and Punjabi, and weaves these together with local field recordings, additional new interviews with Todmorden residents, music from  brass bands, choirs and orchestras and other sounds to create a 3D ‘sonic collage’ of Todmorden

Jo Kennedy said:

“ We were spoilt for choice, but with such a rich variety of sounds and voices we hope we managed to capture some of the essence of our small but very vibrant town.as it was then and as it is now – a mix of the rural and the urban, its sense of a caring community and the spirit of independence which makes it so special. ”

Ian Alderson said:

‘This project was a great way to build on the legacy of Tod Tales, using these wonderful interviews which had never been heard before and adding new perspectives about Todmorden in the present day, to construct a sound ‘picture’ of Tod past and present.’

The project was funded by the Arts Council , Community Foundation For Calderdale and Todmorden Town Council.
