Monique Roffey and Courttia Newland

Monique Roffey is an award-winning Trinidadian-born British writer of novels, essays, literary journalism, and a memoir. Her most recent novel, The Mermaid of Black Conch, won the Costa Book of the Year Award 2020.

Author, screenwriter and playwright Courttia Newland has published eight books, including his widely acclaimed debut novel, The Scholar. As a screenwriter, he has co-written two feature-length films for the Steve McQueen BBC series Small Axe. His latest novel, A River Called Time, was published in 2021. His collection of speculative fiction stories, Cosmogramma, will be published this year.
