Pauline Lancaster explores the newly discovered papers and letters belonging to the Fielden family and the fascinating stories they tell.
The documents refer to the Poor Law riots in the area in 1838. From the letters, sent between members of the Fielden family, we learn of their travels on the continent, of Mary’s ‘enchantment’ with her father’s speech in Parliament and Joshua’s involvement with work on Robinwood Mill.
Pauline Lancaster is Information Services Team Leader for Calderdale Libraries.
